Millionaire Comedian to Pay $175,000 in Spousal Support
Posted on Apr 14, 2013
It’s no joke. Kevin Hart, comedian and "Real Husbands of Hollywood" star, is worth a reported $9 million. Yet, he will be paying his soon-to-be ex-wife Torrei Hart a settlement of just $175,000. Torrei will also receive $19,785 a month in child support.
Kevin Hart filed for divorce in February 2011 after a marriage of almost 8 years. The couple has two children together—an 8-year-old daughter, Heaven Leigh, and a 5-year-old son, Hendrix. Although Kevin Hart was involved in several public extra-marital affairs, he requested in his divorce filings that the court not grant his wife any spousal support. While the divorce was finalized in November 2011, the terms of the divorce agreement were not settled until March 2013.
Torrei Hart will also receive a Cadillac Escalade and jewelry.
TMZ.com has speculated that the couple had a prenuptial agreement that explains the inequitable distribution of property after the divorce; however, Torrei Hart is a comedienne in her own right. She is known for her spoofs of “Basketball Wives: LA” and Destiny’s Child. The lack of spousal support may be because she is able to provide support for herself. The couple states that they are still friends.
Torrei Hart told TMZ that she hopes to be a positive example of a woman who lives well and thrives after divorce.
