You may not need to retain a lawyer for your entire divorce. However, you should consult with an attorney before signing any agreements or other documents. Reason being, anything you sign may be binding even if you later discover the agreement is unfair for you.

Your best case scenario is to work out a settlement agreement with your husband and review that agreement with a lawyer experienced in divorce law before signing.

Again, do not feel pressured to sign anything without first consulting with a lawyer. You do not want to end up losing your rights because you felt pressured to sign. Or, because you just wanted to get the case over with.

You may not need a lawyer for your divorce case but make sure you consult with an experienced divorce lawyer before signing anything.
