After 72 days of marriage, Kim Kardashian made the decision to call it quits. The decision came as a shock to the audience who had watched the very public and lavish exchange of nuptials less than one year earlier.
According to Kardashian, the decision was not easy and she knew that there would be some element of backlash. Now, as her soon-to-be ex-spouse, Kris Humphries, drags his feet to finalize the divorce, Kardashian has hit the media circuit making it clear that she is ready for her divorce in California to be final.
The couple filed for divorce October 31, 2011, in the Los Angeles Superior Court. The reason cited on the paperwork was irreconcilable differences. The brief marriage was displayed in the Kardashian reality television show where her fans could watch the struggles she and Humphries went through together.
Kardashian and Humphries did have a pre-nuptial agreement. Kardashian has been open about her disinterest in paying California spousal support to Humphries. Because the couple had no children, California child support payments were not an issue.
Kardashian has now moved on and is openly in a relationship with the singer Kanye West. Kardashian and West are expecting their first child together, which has increased the urgency for finalization of the Humphries/Kardashian California divorce. Some people have criticized Kardashian for being pregnant with West’s child while still married to another man. She deflects his criticism by stating that she faced fertility issues and being pregnant came as a surprise and a blessing.
Humphries is reportedly dragging his feet because he is suing Kardashian for a California annulment. He has also made claims that she fraudulently agreed to marry him.
