Mayim Bialik, star of the hit TV show The Big Bang Theory, filed for divorce in California from her husband, Michael Stone. The couple has been married for nine years and has two sons together.

Bialik has been open about the difficulties she has faced by going through her divorce. In particular, she has said that the couple’s decision to separate was “terribly sad, painful, and incomprehensible for children.”

Bialik authored a book only a few years ago discussing her belief in the importance of “attachment parenting,” or being the caregiver to her children. This mindset inspired her and Stone to decline the help of a nanny and devote their lives to raising their children. While she was open about the fact that her parenting style did not leave much down time, she disputes the notion that it is what led to the California divorce.

Now, Bialik and Stone say that their priority is making the transition from one home to two homes as seamlessly as possible. This is a challenge many single mothers can relate to.

On her recent walk down the red carpet at the Golden Globes award show, Bialik said that she has high hopes for 2013. She stayed positive with a glass-half-full mentality by stating that after all of the challenges she faced in 2012, things could only get better. To help her cope she has set a goal to climb a mountain with a good friend of hers in 2013. She has also taken up running as a way to move past the pain of her California separation.
